CCRAB is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to conducting impactful citizen science in the communities we serve.
HOW WE STARTED
CCRAB originated as the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for the Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities (LAMC) and was established as its own nonprofit organization in 2014. We continue to partner with LAMC to address environmental and health inequities in Accabee, Chicora-Cherokee, Five Mile, Howard Heights, Liberty Hill, Rosemont, Union Heights, and Windsor Place.
WHAT WE DO
CCRAB facilitates numerous university-community partnerships to investigate environmental and public health concerns identified by residents including but not limited to:
air quality
soil quality
water quality, and
flooding and climate change impacts.
We then educate community members on environmental monitoring, teaching them how to access data and information about their communities for themselves.
OUR TEAM
CCRAB is steered by an all-volunteer working board consisting of residents of environmental justice communities, environmental activists, environmental policy leaders, community organizers, civil and chemical engineers, city planners, business owners, retired nuclear and chemistry industry workers, researchers, educators, and scientists. CCRAB strives to have representation from all base communities on its board.
We also are led by a staff of two, including Community Research Director, Najeema Washington, and Operations Mangaer, Krista Cezair.
